Time to Start a New Adventure

Well, I've been tied up for the last few weeks on a landscaping project in my back yard, trying to finish things up before it gets too cold and snow starts to fly. I'm not quite finished, but it's getting there. I figured it was about time to get started on a new adventure in knife making.

I'll be building two knives a this time, a Jaguar and a Virtue. The Jaguar will have giraffe bone scales, Damasteel bolsters, and a CPM154 blade. The Virtue will also have a CPM154 blade and have continuous scales (no bolsters) made from a really cool custom Micarta material. The Virtue will also be built with all hidden screws which should make for a pretty slick finished product.

Here is where all of my builds start, a big pile of raw materials: titanium, CPM154, 416ss, Damasteel, Micarta, and giraffe bone. I'm asked all the time about where I get my parts to make knives. Here's the answer. I have traced the outline for the major parts onto the raw materials and they are ready to be roughed out.

It was good to be out in the shop again after a several-week absence. Unfortunately, I was just starting to cut parts out on the band saw when I received a phone call which took me away once again. So, even though I made a valiant attempt at a good start, I didn't get very far. Oh well. Sometimes that's just how life goes. This next weekend, I have family coming home, so I probably won't get much done then either. Still, I'll try to sneak off for an hour or two. My clients have been so patient and I hate to keep them waiting much longer for their orders.

When all is said and done, I think these two knives are going to be great. I'm anxious to see how the screwless Virtue will look and I'm looking forward to working with giraffe bone for the first time. Thanks for checking in and I hope you will enjoy following along on these new builds. Have a great week.
