The Pride and Bobcat Continue

It's been a couple of weeks since I've been able to make it out to my shop and I was starting to go through withdrawals. It felt good to smell hot steel again. Here are a few progress pics of the Pride and Bobcat builds.

Here's a quick look at the mating ends of the bolsters and scales. The scales and bolsters are beveled at 30 degrees in order to create a dovetail at each joint.

Once the front end of the scales are mated up to the bolsters, I drill the screw pilot holes through them. Using these holes, I pin the scales together and grind the back end of the scales to match each other. These ends will also get beveled in order for a dovetail fit to the rear bolsters.

Here are the Bobcat's bolsters and scales screwed to the liners. They will get profile ground while they are still attached.

The Pride knife, if you recall, will have all hidden screws. Since it doesn't work to screw directly into the CF scales (the material simply won't hold threads), I need to have something for the screws to grab on to. To accomplish this I cut some small discs of stainless steel and glue them into milled holes in the back sides of the scales. Here I am cutting the counterbores at the mill.

Here are the scales and discs ready to be epoxied together. The discs are cut from 1/4" 416 dowel rod if anyone is interested.

Stainless discs being epoxied in place.

Here's the final pic of the day of the back sides of the Pride liners. You can see how the screws which fasten the bolsters to the liners are recessed into of the liners. Once the epoxy is set I'll grind the scales with the stainless discs flat and fit them to the handles.

Thanks for following along with me on this knife-making adventure. I hope you'll check back soon.
